AWE Nuclear Security Technologies

For 75 years AWE has had one mission: to play our part in keeping our nation safe. Since the nuclear weapons programme was established at Aldermaston in April 1950, we’ve been steadfast in delivering against that commitment – through brilliant science and technology.

Our role in nuclear defence, as an arms-length body of the Ministry of Defence, is to design, develop, manufacture and maintain the warheads for the UK’s Continuous At Sea Deterrent (CASD).

Our Nuclear Threat Reduction (NTR) specialists work with the Government to protect our country from radiological and nuclear threats and our scientists provide expertise to international efforts to monitor the Earth for nuclear testing.

Operating across the UK, we utilise some of the most advanced research, design and production facilities in the world. We are highly skilled individuals, working together in service of our mission to deliver something truly unique.

At Babcock, our Purpose is to create a safe and secure world, together, and this defines everything we do.
Delivered through our four Sectors across the globe, we meet our customers’ key requirements of affordability, availability, and capability by delivering engineering, support and critical systems to defence and civil markets.
We provide through-life technical and engineering support for our customers’ assets, delivering improvements in performance, availability and programme cost. We deliver these critical services to defence and civil customers, including engineering support to naval, land, air and nuclear operations, frontline support, specialist training and asset management.
We also design and manufacture a range of defence and civil specialist equipment, from naval ship and weapons handling systems to liquid gas handling systems. We also provide integrated, technology-enabled solutions to our defence customers in areas such as secure communications, electronic warfare and air defence.

ADS are proud to represent well over 1,400 members from the UK’s innovative, entrepreneurial and prosperous aerospace, defence, security, and space sectors.

From the procurement of clothes to carriers, food to fighter jets, we ensure our UK military customers – the Royal Navy, the British Army and the Royal Air Force – have the equipment and support they need to carry out their duties effectively. We also manage the recruitment for our sister organisation – the Submarine Delivery Agency.
