Ericsson’s appointment to the UK Government’s Tactical Communication Systems framework opens a major procurement vehicle for defence-grade 5G and mission-critical connectivity, with significant implications for the wider defence technology supply chain.
Ericsson has been selected as a provider on the UK Government’s Tactical Communication Systems framework (RM6393), securing positions in both Lot 1 (Services) and Lot 3 (Components). The framework, valued at up to £8 billion over eight years, gives the Ministry of Defence and wider public sector bodies direct access to Ericsson’s full portfolio of advanced communications and information systems, including its global 5G and mission-critical network capabilities.
The appointment represents a significant step in the UK’s strategy to modernise defence communications infrastructure. By integrating 5G technology into tactical environments, the armed forces can access high-bandwidth, low-latency and resilient connectivity capable of linking sensors, personnel and platforms in real time. This underpins some of the most operationally significant capabilities in the current defence programme, including multi-domain command and control, uncrewed systems operations and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. Ericsson’s solutions are built on global 3GPP standards, a design choice that carries practical significance beyond the UK.
