A new fleet of 24 support vessels, built by Damen Shipyards under an £850 million afloat services contract, is set to be allocated across the Royal Navy’s three principal operating bases, with the majority heading to HMNB Devonport. The vessels, delivered as part of a contract operated by Serco Maritime on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, include tugs, pilot boats, passenger vessels and barges, and are designed to replace ageing auxiliary craft that have supported fleet operations at the UK’s main naval bases for many years.
