Summary

The Strategic Defence Review 2025 sets out a major reset of UK defence policy in response to what it describes as the most serious and unpredictable threat environment since the Cold War. Published in June 2025, it calls for a shift to “warfighting readiness”, with a stronger “NATO first” posture, greater homeland resilience, and faster adoption of technologies such as drones, AI and digital warfare. It also links defence more directly to economic growth through procurement reform and stronger partnerships with UK industry. The review says the government has accepted all 62 recommendations and presents the strategy as a long-term transformation of Defence over the next decade.
