Ministry of Defence (MOD)

Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S)

Defence Equipment and Support equips and supports the UK’s Armed Forces for current and future operations. Employing approximately 18,000 people with a budget of some £14bn, DE&S has headquarters in Bristol with other sites across the UK and overseas. DE&S acquires and supports equipment and services including ships, aircraft, vehicles and weapons, information systems and satellite communications.

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl)

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) is the UK’s leading Government agency responsible for delivering high-impact science and technology for the UK’s defence, security and prosperity.

Dstl brings together the defence and security S&T community, including industry, academia, wider Government and international partners, to provide sensitive and specialist S&T services to MOD and wider Government.

Defence and Security Accelerator

The Accelerator is formed of personnel from the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, Defence Equipment and Support and the Home Office.

The Defence and Security Accelerator focuses on innovations which can provide advantage to defence and national security to protect the UK from its adversaries.

It will fund the development of suppliers’ innovative ideas and provide support through to potential application. The Accelerator will also fund innovations for defence and security which support economic growth and prosperity in the UK.

Department for International Trade (DIT) Defence & Security Organisation (DSO)

The aim of Department for International Trade (DIT) is to help UK companies to win overseas business in these lucrative markets. DIT works with industry to build and maintain relationships with overseas customers, providing the essential government-to-government interaction.

Defence Cyber Protection Partnership (DCPP)

The DCPP aims to protect our military capability by improving cyber defence through the MOD’s supply chain while preserving existing investment in cyber security measures. As part of the partnership the Ministry of Defence has created a number of cyber security standards that have to be met to contract with MOD, these are outlined in the Cyber Security Model (CSM).

United Kingdom National Codification Bureau

The United Kingdom National Codification Bureau (UKNCB) is part of the Ministry of Defence – Defence Equipment & Support.

UKNCB catalogue everything that the Armed Forces use; not just weapons systems and hardware, but spares, clothing, medical items, food and anything else the services need, assigning NATO Stock Numbers (NSN) to this equipment.

Being part of this catalogue is a key enabler in selling to UK and overseas militaries, as it allows interoperability within NATO. UKNCB are now offering NATO codification services to UK companies to support the marketing and sales of their products to overseas governments.
